Was Trayvon Martin armed?

No, but he placed George Zimmerman in a situation that he feared for his life. Zimmerman didn't pull a gun on Martin before he (Martin) jumped on him.

This is why Zimmerman, under Florida law, was found not guilty.

An unarmed person can cause a lot of damage to another person.

And you're not in touch with reality.

I saw this several times. Outside Jose Garces, at the coffee places on opposite corners 11th/Spruce, restaurant at 10th/Spruce, 1000 block of Spruce (woman had phone snatched sitting on her building's stoop). These were just the incident I personally witnessed.

Trust me, this happened. Don't leave phones, tablets, purses sitting on a table, especially outside.
I think your advice applies to any major city, not just Philadelphia.

I have never been intimidated walking through Center City. Center City is a very safe area. There were only two times that I had my guard up while walking through the downtown area of a major city: Baltimore and Paris. When I was in Paris eating at a Pizza Hut in the 1st arrondisment, I witnessed a tourist getting jumped by a gang of about 30 people. They stole his backpack and left him laying on the ground. I wanted to help him out, but I didn't want anyone taking my passport, driver's license, and all the Euros in my wallet.

The other time, I stayed overnight at the Sheraton-Inner Harbor in Baltimore for a conference. I was with my college, so I was instructed not to leave the hotel. This did not stop me from sneaking out, however. Walking along Conway Street was scary. I have never felt scared in the downtown area of a major city until I decided to walk around Baltimore past midnight.

Philly feels safe, especially in Center City. There aren't too many neighborhoods in Philly that I am scared to walk in.

Umm, 1) this is a Philly forum with 2) a Philly-centric topic. So, it shouldn't be compared to other cities; of course bad things happen all over. CC Philly does feel safe, the issue I mentioned, kids stealing phones etc off tables is not a violent crime, just a clean robbery causing personal misery to its victims. The Schuykill Trail issue raises another issue altogether.

Even though CC feels safe, there are more armed robberies than you might suspect and other assorted crimes. Again, all cities have crime issues and again, this is a Philly forum.
