Some people just have to prove how much more authentic they are than everyone else.

The vibe is, imo, VERY Philly. Very old-school, old-world, east coast, hustle and bustle. People watching: locals shopping for groceries, businessmen grabbing a bite for lunch, tourists snapping photos. Amish, chinese, thai, italian...- it's merchants are diverse and representative of the region, the sites and smells are eclectic and interesting. Again, all this aside from food.

Not to bury the lead, but I think you're overthinking this one a bit.
Some Reading Terminal advocates were pitching it as an improved Faneuil Hall, so some people notice the similarity. And of course Reading Terminal has a Philly twist, just like:
  • The Ferry Building has a San Francisco twist
  • The French Market has a New Orleans twist
  • Chelsea Market has a NYC twist
  • Lexington Market has a Baltimore twist
