Apparently it's being inundated with people not from 'round here.

There's an article about it in the Inquirer.

If you're looking for a bright spot here, it's that these people are seasonal, mostly attracted by Devil's Pool and the Wissahickon. Come cooler weather they'll mostly be gone.
Also, I often run in that area and have noticed that even on the nicest days once you're on trails that are not leading toward Devil's Pool or that don't parallel the Creek you've got the park to yourself.
The part of that article that disturbed me the most was the lead picture - the FOW volunteer picking up trash, surrounded by people who within hours will have trashed the place again.

People that trash the park are disgusting. I would like to see some extreme fines. I have no problem with the visitors per se I just wish there was a way for the park to get income from outsiders as it is underfunded as is. I have definitely noticed more people but it still doesn't feel over crowded IMO.

I sense a tiny wee bit of xenophobia in your statement. Seeing that you are a big proponent of getting more people to visit Philly, you need to make up your mind.

For a city that is chocked with trash, I don't think visitors are entirely to blame.

Are you talking about Devil's Pool? Was there a recent article? It has been an issue for a long time.

Edit: Just read article. Ok the tour bus from Brooklyn is a bit much! Why wouldn't they go to the beaches in Brooklyn or Queens?

So some folks on another thread think we should be friendly or kind or whatever to visitors like this who actually do not care AT ALL that this place is part of our home.

How would you enforce any fines?

It was an attempt at sarcasm.

I've been to the park once for long run in the Fall when the trails are less crowded. In the Summer, I can imagine it's a zoo

Quote:
Though swimming is not allowed in the park, there is little officials can do to stop it.

Jack Violante, a visitor from Ambler, was getting ready to leap off a rock into Devil’s Pool on Thursday when he pointed to trash strewn about the rock.

“That’s unacceptable,” Violante said. “If people want to use the park, then they need to respect it.”

No idea really. I would imagine you would have to rely on rangers writing tickets if they witness the littering. I would imagine a lot of the litter in concentrated in certain areas so having rangers lurk nearby. Farm out the collection of the fines to a law firm.
