Hey everyone. I just stumbled on this site and was intrigued.

A few friends and I have been looking hard for a summer sublet closer to center city. We are currently in the northwest part of the city (roxborough) and are trying to get closer to the action.

We are trying to find a place with 2 bedrooms for less that 1000/month for june-august.

Basically I have 2 questions.
|What parts of south philly are safe? I hear tasker and up east of broad is good.
|What other areas do you recommend looking? We have already scoured university city to no avail.

Also, does anyone know anywhere else besides craigslist that has free listings for the area?

Thanks for any help.
I'm really looking forward to contributing to the site.

I would keep an eye on craigslist and the South Philly Review . . . as it gets closer to March/April. Those sublets are going to open up in late May/early June when the spring semester ends. Most of those will be in University City but South Philly will probably be a close second.

Roxborough could very well be the safest zip code in the city. You shouldn't be scared but you should be mindful that things are different down here and you should conduct yourself accordingly.

The areas shaded in red are the parts of South Philly I would stay away from. Outside of that, some neighborhoods are better than others but it's not as simple as east good/west bad. Some parts east of Broad (along 5th/6th) are pretty rough and some parts west of Broad are much nicer than anything east of Broad.

I'm guessing OP has resolved the housing issue by now.
