If someone "is capable of doing it themselves" then they would, there already IS access to what is required for that.....medical professionals who take an oath to preserve life and not to administer a noxious substance should be kept right out of it....assistance from someone else? fine, but not doctors.
Arranging for a police officer to shoot you is not an easy way to arrange one's death and not guaranteed to work. And it's also a non-starter in parts of the world where civilians are not allowed access to firearms (which would be necessary in order to provoke the police officer to shoot) and even the police do not carry firearms here.

There is not access to an easy, quick and guaranteed method of suicide. Whether or not an actual doctor is involved, anyone should have the right to access to the pharmacological means to end their lives after a waiting period.

Who needs "access to firearms"?...all you need is a cell phone.
We already have access to the "pharmaceutical means" to end our life if we so desire.

Overdoses on paracetamol and the like are a very unreliable method of suicide. Usually the method of choice for the 'cry for help' gesture.

There should be access to the pharmaceutical means to end it swiftly and painlessly.

If such existed, I would have come across it in my extensive research and there would be hardly anyone jumping in front of trains.

Carbon monoxide exhaust fumes? Bleach? Any pharmacy? All of the above. Really. The methods are out there. People will always jump in front of trains, unfortunately. Just like people will always commit suicide for as long as humanity continues to exist.

Car exhaust pipes are now designed in such a way as to prevent people from committing suicide that way. Bleach is not a reliable method and is more gruesome than jumping in front of a train. Overdoses on over the counter medications is not a reliable method of committing (why do you think that there is a right to die movement if anyone could just get drugs from their pharmacy which have the same effect as the phenobarbital used by Dignitas?).

The craziest people are those who think life has some intrinsic value. You seem to fall into that group.

Crazy is relative, moron.

I have personal knowledge of this... my BIL did this! He KNEW what he was doing! He was tooooo chicken s**t to do it to himself! The Legacy he left behind for his wife/kids/grandchildren is unforgivable... but then again... he never did care about anybody BUT HIMSELF!

Self-centered, narcissistic SOB!

EDIT: The more I think about it.... he was a BULLY, who loved to play the VICTIM card! Poor me, poor me.... everybody is out to get me! Think about it.... he just went out in a blaze of bullets! Just like a victim????
