I'm moving to Glendale AZ and will be attending ASU starting this August. I've lived in NJ my whole life so I know nothing about that part of the country. Does anyone know much about Glendale? It is safe and a good city to be in? How is the night life? How hot does it get in Arizona? And is it a big deal if you're hispanic down there? I'm Puerto Rican, and while I'm not worried about the new law, I am a bit concerned after seeing some of the attitudes people here have about hispanics.

When you say ASU, do you mean ASU proper, in Tempe? Because that's a helluva commute from Glendale...

Anyhow - Glendale's on the west side. Most of the cities out here have their good places, and also their places from which to stay away. Someone from Glendale will be along shortly I'm sure.

Not a big deal if you're Hispanic, lol. Don't believe the news hype.

Enjoy AZ - can't beat it! It's about 110 this week. Welcome.

Glendale to the main campus in Tempe is a long drive and if you want campus nightfile you need to be in Tempe or Scottsdale. What is your reasoning for wanting to live in Glendale?

Are your classes at the west campus? If not, there's no reason to live in Glendale.

I'm on this provisional program so the school is making me stay at the West Campus in Glendale

Is it a huge difference from Tempe's campus?

If you are staying at the west campus but going to the main campus that commute will pretty much suck.

The West Campus and the area around there are nice, especially north and west of the campus. This is a middle class neighborhood some older homes, some newer. You may also consider Peoria which is adjacent and has an excellent school district (I do not know if you have children). Rentals abound if you are planning on renting.

We have a large Hispanic population. You will go unnoticed.

It's a dry heat.

GSP Exit 105 here. No offense to Glendale, but when I was of college age, I think I would have offed myself if I had to live in Glendale. Things might be more lively these days in that most suburban of suburbs since they have the football stadium, the concert hall/hockey rink, and the surrounding froo-fra (mostly chain restaurants last time I was there). But there are some bars now at least trying to be hip.

Surely, TDWP, you'll meet some classmates at the campus who can steer you to the places you'd want to see and be seen. And you'll all probably try to transfer to the main campus ASAP, then move back to Glendale when you have families.

Good luck!

ASU West in Glendale is pretty slow paced compared to ASU in Tempe. I'm talking snail pace here. I've heard that there's a shuttle or bus that goes back and forth. Check with parking services if you need to take a class in Tempe.
