I don't live in Phoenix, but since I am often bored in Tucson I spend a lot of time there. As a single female who prefers an urban environment, I concur with Finger Laker's suggestion about the Biltmore area (East of 51, West of Scottsdale Ave, North of Indian School, South of Cactus). I'm also quite taken with the neighborhood known as Arcadia (East of 40th Street, West of Goldwater, North of Thomas, South of Indian School). You can find some great mid-century modern architecture there. The highrises on or close to Central would put you right in the center of the action.

This Website Phoenix Condos and Lofts For Sale. The Best Way to Browse the Phoenix Condo Market! is for buyers, not renters, but since it's organized by areas, studying it would give you an idea about what kinds of properties are in what areas, as well as definitions of what constitutes specific neighborhoods.

Good luck to both OP and SoonerGirl.

Thanks for your suggestions!
Soonergirl, a couple of days ago I found out I'm being relocated to Tucson, so my quest is over in PHX and begins in Tucson, good luck with your search and decision!

Thanks again everyone!!
