Why is it that so many people in Phoenix have only an automated voice as an out-going message on their voice-mail? This is almost never the case in, say, Los Angeles or New York.

Are people too lazy to do a personalized one? Are they too dumb to follow the prompts? Are they too insecure about the sound of their voice?

I have the automated voice on both my home and cell... I don't bother since most people are too lazy to call... they just text. The few people who actually get to the voicemail are probably trying to sell something anyway.

my guess would be security, some single females or elderly perfer not to advertise.

The reasons you list probably reflect you more than others.

Actually, no, now that you mention it, it occurs to me that none of these are single females. They're either men or couples, mostly younger or middle-aged. Perhaps single women are more considerate of their callers?

You can't base a city's automated voice mail, by just calling a few people. How many of the 4.5 million in Phoenix have you called? In life, people like to choose an easier way to get things done with the least amount of work.
