Considering a travel assignment at Mayo. Was a little surpised at the dress code for nurses to include white shoes. Not that I make a big deal about it but wonder if they allow white tennis shoes....I mean it's my feet for 12 hours. Also does the whole organization seem a little "perfect"?

Thanks. Just asking.

It would SURE look good on your resume. I'd inquire about the shoes with Mayo.

I, too, would ask THEM about the shoes, not this forum. I'm sure there are some very comfortable white walking-type shoes available (which is what you may mean by tennis shoes). I'd take the assignment, too.

Yes I plan to ask THEM. And in terms of resume, excellence is in the practice not the building or the name. It's between you and the patient.

True, but your quality of care doesn't show on your resume. The reputation of the hospital does count at that level. Then, references who can speak directly on the quality of the care you provide take it from there.

Sick people are sick in county hospitals and the Cleveland clinic. My question was pointed towards since they require an austere dress code does the environment between clinicians reflect that same lock step or is it collaborative? That would be the heart of my question.

They want white shoes for bio reasons. Can't see bio with black shoes. Bio = any bodily fluids. Most of the hospitals in the valley will require white shoes. The place someone works at, says no to tennis shoes, but ok to nursing shoes. They aren't dress shoes and are comfortable.

Sorry but I need to keep some anonymity on the net.

Mayo is VERY difficult to get into without an internal reference. I wish you the best of luck.

For the reasons stated above, I don't see white shoes as "austere dress code".

Banner doesn't require white shoes that I know of--the 3 I've been in,Boswell, T-Bird or Good Sam didn't have nurses w/ white shoes or anything else white that I recall/floors or ICU, unless they chose it. And, even home health nurses don't wear white anymore that I know of. Mayo just has that thing, I guess.
I have a family member who goes to Mayo. They're not perfect, no. They're organized (heavily and I think from the top down), things flow very well there. And, they're customer oriented, but it feels artificial to me if you get what I'm saying. I think some docs there are good, but docs elsewhere can be good, too.

Thanks for the insights and opinions. Will let you know. I have an interview by phone with them in a couple hours. The white shoe thing makes more sense to me now.
