May I ask how much the going rate is for a good sitter, in my home, for the occasional night out? Not sure if it is the same as Seattle or not, so thought I would inquire from the pros Thanks!

I'll do it for $100 if they aren't brats. Full fridge privileges too.

I think $10 per hour per kid is more than fair. If you have lots of kids (say, three or more), you could go as low as $5 per hour per kid.

We pay our sitter $10-12/hour for our two kids. I know that is more than she makes from other people in our neighborhood. She said that $8/hour was fine but we insisted on $10/hour and then we usually throw in a few extra bucks to round it off. It's what we paid in CA and we really like our sitter here. She plays with the kids (doesn't just sit on the couch and watch them play) and she cleans up the kitchen and family room before we get home which is nice. Our kids are pretty mellow and generally well-behaved so it's a fairly easy job but we also want our sitter to take the job seriously. She has taken a babysitting class which taught her first aid and other emergency responses. And we really feel for teenagers now with the prices of gas and movie tickets and other things. I made $5-6/hour babysitting 25 years ago when gas and movie tickets were much cheaper!

I made $1. 00 per hour back in the 80's. $30 a week for full time summer care. I am just glad I have teen daughters to watch the younger ones. $8- $10 per hour is lot of money, but you certainly want someone responsible for that job!

Yes, $25 for a sitter so the hubby and I can get out for a date night seems expensive but it's so worth it every now and then.
