We're talking about statistics here and why or why not not Phoenix would have received an A. And if you don't believe me, reference post #3.
What does post #3 have to do with your consternation concerning having a "freak show" next door to you? Do you really believe that it will affect your property values to a significant extent?

I lived in the valley for a year before having to move due to family reasons. I hope to move back there at some point because I loved it there. It's not the hell hole that many portray it to be.

Again, off topic.

This is about stats and the Phoenix area. I am sure the AZ Republic had SOME investment in printing the article. I am also sure a Phoenix based research firm was not the best choice..

However, what possible investment could a local newspaper have in conducting such a study? And where were these random people selected? If in Scottsdale or Paradise Valley, I can see it and not so random. If on 12th and Jackson St, you'd get a different story.

One really needs to look at the study and how participants were selected (randomly) before making too much of this. Plus, as we all know, statistics can be bent and shaped.

Furthermore, the survey was conducted by a company based in Phoenix. It would have much more credence from an outside independent surveyor.

Read again. The newspaper did not contract for the survey. As to your last post, you are "sure the newspaper had SOME investment in printing the article". How are you
"SURE"? Does everything that doesn't fit with your perception of Phoenix have to be flawed in some way?

I would presume that people who live in the town of Paradise Valley or Scottsdale would not be selected to respond in a poll about how people who live in Phoenix feel about their city.

It's true that how questions are phrased and how the sampling is done can affect the results of any poll. I used to work on public opinion polls here locally, so I know more than a bit about how they are done.

Behavior Research is a well-respected conductor of polls on a wide variety of issues-- unlike you, I would not be predisposed to assume the poll was improperly conducted just because you don't agree with it.

And, you are the one who brought up the irrelevant issue (to this thread) of what you call your "freak show" next door. Enough with calling out people for mentioning it in their posts.

I still don't understand.

Your post about the possible freak show ruining your chances of selling your home was as off topic as it gets; not that I'm complaining. I'm just trying to understand what you meant by it.

People on the AZ forum who gripe about Phoenix lack credibility, but 700 people represent the majority of 1.6 million.
People who dislike where they live don't always move away. Some just cannot afford it, while others get relocated due to career reasons. The word "like" is a very broad-based term when used in this context.

OK, in case you had not noticed, this thread is about AZ receiving an A for livability.

You go back on ignore, right now, as this is the last time I want to have to type out such a thing.

That's fine. I can probably do without clarification of your freak show comment.

I lived in Phoenix for a short time years ago...really more of an extended visit. While I enjoyed my time there I'm not sure that in the long term I could have dealt with the extreme heat. But it's easy to see how some people could love it.

Egads, yet another person opining on Phoenix who does not live here. Go away.

You are re-phrasing my post. I never said I was SURE of anything, other than it makes for good press to include a survey done by one of your own (almost sort of like incest) to boost ratings. I merely questioned what the AZ Republic could have as an incentive to print such a thing?

I also did not bring up irrelevant things, rather someone else.
