Diamondbacks Opening Day tailgate at CityScape yesterday. Good event.

If CityScape not just brings people downtown from elsewhere, but gives those already there during the day a reason to stick around in the evening, it will add to making downtown a more active place. It will never be the same in downtown Phx as it is in other major cities, so there's no point in rehashing that. But, it doesn't have to be. It just needs to be a lot better than it was back when there was NO reason to go downtown at night. Big strides have been made from that point already, and CityScape is another part of that.

I will agree with this. Even considering my disappointment with how CityScape turned out, I'm glad at least something worthwhile replaced what used to be there. Perhaps CityScape needs more publicity. In any case, I still would like to see the entertainment district materialize along Jackson Street as originally envisioned. That, along with CityScape, would really be a big stride!

I think the Jackson St project is pretty dead for the immediate and mid term future. I actually see the block both to the east (between the Cityscape office tower and Bank of America tower, directly north of US Airways Center) and the block directly south of Cityscape (and west of US Airways) getting developed next. That, along with the Luhr's block getting new developments and retailers could really help downtown and actually have a few contiguous blocks of retails, restaurants, hotels etc which is what we really need. Downtown has a lot of great places but for the most part, they are too spread apart with too many blank gaps in between which isnt conducive to walkability.
