University of Phoenix has 500,000 students. 87% of their revenue comes from Federally backed student loans. For profit colleges account for only 10% of all student loans, but they account for 44% of defaults. Student loans debt in the US has exceeded credit card debt at over 750 Billion Dollars. Sometimes the truth hurts. If people wouldn't lie to themselves, and their kids, our country would be in a lot better economic shape today. I got a real laugh at the recruiter saying to someone in a real high pitched squeaky voice (like she was speaking to a kindergartner) "Are you thinking about going back to school?" Better think again. It would be great if they could collect child support as aggressively as these loans.
