My co-workers and I are debating over what the best funky establishments are in Tempe or the surrounding area.

We have some ideas but something really cool or trendy in an off-beat sort of way is what's we're looking for.

Are we looking for hipster hangouts that attempt to have a jazz bar atomosphere. Jazz bars are something I miss about Sacramento.

Doesn't have to be a jazz bar kind of atmosphere, could be any trendy hipster place that has a funky decor and food that's away from the ordinary.

I would recommend Carly's. Food is nice, but if their packed, it could be hard to get food. They have live music that is hit or miss. I'd go there again.

Beaver Choice located near Ted's on Broadway & McClintock offers Scandinavian cuisine. Owned and operated by Swedes and all furnishings are from IKEA. The food was good too. I was quite impressed.

Has anyone tried Haji-Baba on east Apache for a middle eastern experience?

I'm wondering how good that place is and if that would count as trendy or funky?
