I have friends who live in Maricopa and their children attend the local schools and they are quite pleased. I like that area real well. It's just traffic getting in and out at peak hours, but the deals on houses there make it worth it if u like Arizona.

Notice how old the written reviews are. According to my relative who lives there. the schools in Maricopa did seem to be getting better during the boom years, but in the last few years, the influx of people moving into rental properties that were on the market dirt cheap started changing things for the worse -- not everyone coming in fit that description, but many did... enough to affect the schools and some of the neighborhoods. Whether it is starting to turn around again, I don't know.

While AZ does have open enrollment, students who live within a district boundary have priority so attending another school is by application and subject to space availability. Highly ranked schools near areas of poorly ranked schools often have waiting lists.

True. If Hamilton's not available, I'd still look at one of the other Chandler schools (Basha, Perry, not sure which locations would be most convenient) before Maricopa.

Sorry to hear about the loss of job. At least your son is willing to move, so that should help him out.

There is a good chance that Hamilton will be full. You might also consider Moutain Pointe in Ahwatukee, which is part of the Tempe Union High District.

Good idea. Mountain Pointe, or Desert Vista, both in the Ahwatukee/Foothills area, would be excellent options, and might be closer than the others.

Desert Vista is usually full and won't take out of boundary students. That's the only reason I didn't mention it. Same with Corona del Sol. Marcos de Niza might be another option.

Not necessarily the reviews that site has...its the data and test scores. You can tell everything about a school from its demographics, data, and test scores.

For one year left in school, it may not matter much where the OP's son enrolls, actually. I'd still opt out of Maricopa, but if the OP decides not to, it's not as if her son is an incoming freshman.
