Something I've been wanting to ask for a while, I notice there are a significant amount of female adult video performers that are from the Phoenix area. Some of them are attractive 40+ year old women with kids. It's as if one they just randomly decided they were going to produce hardcore films. I though it was pretty conservative there, and I'm surprised this element exists. Is it so libertarian there that this a socially acceptable supplemental income for a mother? Maybe I'm not getting the full picture, maybe they already have been dancing in strip clubs for years. Maybe their drug addicts but manage to maintain good appearance. But from my view, they look like healthy normal women.

Since you are from FL you shouldn't be the one to judge, but there are adult companies here aswell. FTV girls being one of the biggest and if you are lucky they shoot outdoors in public all over the Biltmore, Old Towne, and Tempe. There was the infamous Tempe Mansion on Kyrene/Ray owned by a local porn mogul and a lot of Expensive relestate on Camelback Mountain and Biltmore are aswell.

In recent years, Phoenix has been sold as a conservative hot bed due to 1070 and Sherrif Joe but in reality, it's fairly socially liberal overall. Everyone views this differently of course. The only issue where I feel Phoenix is truly conservative on is immigration. Outside of that, it's relatively liberal in my opinion. There are a lot of fiscal conservatives here and the state votes Republican to save on taxes and be aggressive on immigration but this is not nearly as big of a conservative city as it is sold in the media. Consider the people voted for medical marijuana and in 2006, voted against a gay marriage ban (they later voted in favor of it) but it can't be that conservative if a gay marriage ban failed at one point.

You'll be really surprised what is the normal or accepted here in Phoenix. There are a lot of retired porn stars in the Phoenix area as well.... I refer to Phoenix as the entire area. It's fair to say Maricopa county I call Phoenix. lol

But let me say this. Phoenix is not Arizona.

I've met some of the performers you're talking about. I once knew a couple who ran a small empire of girl-next-door sites.

The performers are generally just what they seem: Nice women, active in their communities, sufficiently educated--sometimes even mothers with grown children--who just happen to supplement their income by doing porn. They seemingly aren't addicted to anything more than food, shelter, and spending money. There are also quite a few younger girls who are off-and-on college students who have moved here from other places. And no, porn's not really a big deal here.

I'm glad this topic came up not only because it brought to mind pleasant memories, but because it's another illustration of Arizona's two major cultural influences: Texas and California. Up until the mid-80's Texas had the greatest influence here. In those years you'd hear Bible verses on the station identification "bumpers" for the CBS affiliate that aired between MASH and Trapper John, MD. But since the late 80's when Californians started taking profits from their insane property values and moving away from high taxes and overcrowding, California attitudes have gradually eclipsed those of former Texans here in AZ.

It also helps that almost everyone in Phoenix is from somewhere else. That liberalizes things quite a bit. We can be whatever we want to be--for better or worse.

As a side note: Someone needs to finally lay out for the public what the difference is between "libertarian" and "conservative". Phoenix and most of Arizona tends to be libertarian: We don't care what you do as long as you aren't directly hurting someone without their consent. You own your own body and can use it as you wish, deriving income from it if that's what you have to sell (though they still prosecute prostitution here, albeit loosely). This is the attitude of most residents in Phoenix (and actually throughout AZ). We got rid of most of our blue laws decades ago.

That's not exactly true either Native. It's a very big double standard here in Phoenix and the United States for that matter. But let's not deviate from the adult video question from the OP.
