Osteogal, I can relate to your valid concerns about Fossamax et al. Those concerns ARE warranted.

But they should be weighed against the benefits of these medications. I can tell you this: at age 41. I needed to be treated with high dose, long term steroids. My bone density went from very low 'normal' to osteopenia to osteoporosis in 12 months. Fossamax treatment brought it back to what I started with - still barely normak, dangerously close to osteopenia, but calcium and vitamin D seem to keep it stable.

But, I truly believe that the single most beneficial thing I did to help my bones rebuild was Fossamax.

I know that's NOT what you want to hear, but it is my experience. Sometimes the risk outweighs the rewards. And sometimes the benefits outweigh the risks.
