Just relocated to Phoenix and have had a few days to deal with the morning and evening commute and need some suggestions!! Live at Power Ranch near Power and Pecos in Gilbert and work off of the 51 near Thomas Road. The route that I have been taking is bottom loop of the 202 west to the I-10 then onto 51. I-10, as expected, was very congested during the evening commute (about 1:15 from work to home). Any suggestions on alt. routes, I was looking at the upper part of the 202 east bound to Power Road and taking the surface street down to Pecos (about 10 miles), would this be better?

Thx!!!!

I think it's going to be long commute any way you cut it. Staying off I-10 might help, but there isn't any magic bullet. About six years ago I lived at Elliot and Val Vista and worked at the 51/Camelback. It almost always took an hour no matter what route I tried.

What would you suggest as the alternate routes to stay off of I-10? Are the surface roads any better? I would personally rather be moving than just sitting even if it is a little longer in regards to distance.

If I were able to leave at 4 would the commute be better? I left at 5:30 last night.

Thx!!

Have you tried taking the 51 to the 202, then head south on the 143 to I-10, then using the 60 all the way to Power Rd?

I wouldn't use the 60 to Power.

Take Power up to the North part of the 202 and go from there.

Books on CD are great for Gilbert commutes.

Wow that's harsh...1:15 just home, and how long to work? 45 minutes? That's 2 hours a day in traffic...

I know it's obviously too late now, and what's done is done, but why did you choose a location so far from work to move to?

I live in San Tan Ranch which is basically across the street from you. I used to commute every morning to ASU. In the morning the lower 202 is packed. I found it much better to drive up Higley and take the 60 West to the 101. Hopefully that helps. On my way back on the days when I got out at 5:30, 6:00 I avoided the 101 south no matter what. I just drove east on University out to Higley and then South. I wouldn't do the 202 because it goes up about 3 or 4 streets up! not worth it. As far as I know that's the best way I found to get there and back during rush hour. I'm sure someone can one up me.
Good luck!
