Tempe closer to ASU is full of college students. Further south and east Tempe has some very nice established neighborhoods. The commute is easy to Phoenix from Tempe. (15-20 min). Some neighborhoods are much better than others. Warner Ranch and the Oasis, are nice ones.

What price range? Housing desires? Lifestyle/interest? Renting or buying? Kinda hard to make any recs if you don't get a tad more specific.

South Tempe might be ideal for you - zip 85284. Nice, established neighborhood but rentals are a bit scarce.

What are your transportation plans? Tempe has good express bus service, and south Tempe (where I live) has routes that connect to light rail to get to downtown Phx. Rentals are a bit rare in this area, but they do come up.
