Phoenix itself, never mind metro Phoenix, is a huge place with lots of nice areas. As far as "things to do", there are several shopping malls, dozens of movie theatres. I don't know what else they like to do, but finding an area close to things to do is not difficult. What you need to worry about most is a job, and living close to where that job is. This is a very spread out place, and commutes can be long and expensive. Give us a bit more information, and the people here can help you more. Have you been here before? What makes you consider Phoenix? What are YOU interested in in terms of a location to live in?

Ditto what Observer53 said. For me the best area in Phoenix is more than 4 mi and less than 10 from work.

Are you moving your sisters to Phoenix? If yes then I would say the best thing to do is find a good place for them first, then worry about finding something close by.

Central corridor is a good bet. This is an area which is recovering from the real estate slump but is still affordable at the current time. Values are increasing. Close to light rail, restaurants, museums, sports, night life, etc. One of the top school districts is the Madison school district. You will never find an area which is completely crime free but this is low crime area. Most of the gang activities are in ther West Valley or lower Phoenix (South of McDowell Rd). Another example of why drawing lines doesn't work. The Roosevelt Historic District is on the south side of McDowell and is one of the most desirable places in the City that I am aware of. I have never seen any evidence of gang activity there.

Very true! The Roosevelt Historic district and many other downtown areas and/or historic districts are beautiful places to live!
