How are the apartments in the Phoenix area? Can I find a decent place for 600 or less? I pay 850 a month now here in Charlotte for a small 1 bedroom and rent is just getting to crazy here. Its hard to find a place for 750 or less and even at that price you have to add on water, sewer, trash, etc.....I may find a few apartments under that price but when I call they say the prices are outdated.

Can I find a decent apartment in Phoenix for 600 or less? I dont really care too much about the area to a certain extent I just want to find a nice clean apartment for a cheap price.

Also what about cockroaches in Phoenix? Do you guys have alot of them? In all the apartments I have stayed in here in Charlotte we get those big palmetto cockroaches and I have had my share in the apartments I have lived in and when you go out at night or even at dusk they will zoom past you at 100 mph on the sidewalk and it will scare the daylights out of me when that happens.

One last thing, is mold a problem in the Phoenix area? I am guessing no since its soo dry. What have your experiences been on this issue?

Thank you

There are apartments advertised on banners all over the city for $450, but utilities will be in the hundreds of dollars. Bugs are bugs and Phoenix has more than there share.

Our daughter lived in the Phoenix 'burbs and fortunately, never had a problem with cockroaches. However, her last apartment there was on the first floor and near the swimming pool. As a result, she got the occasional scorpion! Scorpions are attracted to water sources so if you find a complex in your price range that has a pool, don't rent an apartment next to it.

I will say this about apartments in the Phoenix area---our daughter got more for her money there than she did back east. So, you probably will find something in your price range. Just be careful that you don't end up in a bad area.

Thank You for the replies. Someone mentioned about finding an apartment for 450 a month? Can I really find something that low? That would be amazing if I could find something that cheap.

Are utilities really that expensive? I pay around 40 a month here in Charlotte and I never use my heat or air. People call me crazy when its 100 outside and 90 inside my apartment and I still wont turn on the air. I just use my air when the inside humidity goes up near 60%.

You might find something for $450, but that's cheap for Phoenix, and there will be a reason for the "discount" - (i.e. location or condition) On a small 1 bedroom apartment kept at a sane temperature, you're unlikely to go much over $100/mo for utilities.
