Neither, there is some shopping at Estrella Pkwy and I10 (Old Navy, TJ Maxx, Conn's, Sports Chalet, Toys R Us, Lazy Boy, Petsmart, Bevmo, Walmart, Radio Shack) but that's about it. There is a large mall that is supposed to be built at some point in this area but not yet.

Cotton Lane and Yuma Rd has a Super Target. NOTHING at Cotton Lane and I10.

Shopping in Goodyear is spread out and not centralized at all. What exactly are you looking for?

The majority voted down the pool/resident's center and they built it anyways? That's interesting....

Hopefully the growth of the community/new households paying dues will keep the future increases in check/low. Unless they start adding lots of new expensive amenities of which the only thing I've heard is the new rec center in the other side of the community. It was explained to us at the orientation/our understanding was it wasn't going to be like the current rec center with the pools and exercise equipment but more centered around outdoor actives.

Regardless of how it's being done, I think our hoa dues are truly a bargain compared to many other master planned communities we've looked at in price and what it offers.

I have been coming down to the Canyon Trails Blvd area for the last 3 years to a friends place. My wife and I just purchase a 1850 sq ft house in Estrella Mtn for 207K (No pool). Our neighbors bought a brand new just down the street for 216K also with no pool. There are a some nice existing homes in Esytella Mtn for under 225K. IMO the area is truly and vacation/retirement type setting especially with the residence club and associated activities there, and also the Estrella golf course.

The early pioneers were drawn to the area because it was secluded and uncrowded. We did not care that there were no amenities. There were many here who felt it would encourage more people to move here and degrade the quality of life. They got that right, I think. The people who move here now come because there are amenities, not because there are few.

yeah, a supply and demand thing, give the people what they want.

I always understood the pioneer of Estrella and the master planned community concept, Charles Keating, always intended Estrella to be much more than a secluded small community from the get go with lots of amenities, far more than what we have here now, but the economic slowdown in the 80's put a break on things:

Charles Keating - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"His other grand project was Estrella, a 20,000 acres (81 km2) mixed-use development outside of Phoenix in Goodyear, Arizona in the direction of the Sierra Estrella.[15] Incorporating homes, offices, industrial buildings, schools, shopping, a resort and a hospital, it was intended to eventually house 200,000 people and become a model 21st century city."

"A late 1980s downturn in the Sun Belt real estate market put Estrella in jeopardy before much building could be done.[27]"

For more seclusion, there are always places like nearby Rainbow Valley and other remote areas on the outskirts of the valley....for now anyways.

Where we are located in Estrella anyways, it's nothing but peaceful and quiet with lots of good considerate neighbors surrounding us but I can understand anywhere one gets a rude neighbor or 2, life can become not so pleasant.

I've heard they are building Autozone at Fry's on Yuma. Also on the right side of Fry's, behind the gas station will be a small plaza. KB homes started to build at Sarival off I10.
There are activities right off Van Buren and Sarival but i know know what it is. I think there will be a lot more going up when 303 completed.

Yes, I know we are becoming what was intended. I saw the same thing happen with Ahwatukee, but it was much faster and much worse there. Ahwatukee is fine living to some, but to me, it was paradise lost and I had to get out. And that was 25 years ago! I have now lived in Estrella for much of my adult life so we did have a lot of good years before we were discovered. If ever I move again, it will not be in the Phoenix area. I lived here because I had a good paying job I enjoyed , and I lived in Estrella because is was as far from the mess of Phoenix and as un-Phoenix a place as I could afford. Estrella is definitely not the place it was 20 years ago or even 10 years ago.

I don't know what all you retirees and the snowbirds see in Estrella myself. Sure it is a nice place, one of the best in the Phoenix area for sure. But overall, there are so many nicer places in Arizona to live than the Phoenix area. Maybe you are like me, if you must live in Phoenix then Estrella at least makes it somewhat bearable. You can live out here and other than the light pollution of the glowing sky to the northeast, you would never know that Phoenix is there.
