I'm running out of room and I think I want to get a beer fridge in the garage. Bad idea given how hot our garages get? Anyone have one in their garage? Does it keep up fine? Does it run constantly? Is it an energy hog? Thanks!

It won't last as long for sure and will use more energy. Your ability to afford both is the determining factor.

We originally planned on doing that, however, our Realtor told us it would severely raise our electric bill. We decided to forgo the sink in the laundry room and put a second fridge instead.

ETA: that said, I do have a buddy that has a small beer fridge in his garage which only cost like $100, if it burns out no big deal. He's never complained about his electricity from that little fridge.

I would probably just buy a cheapo on Craigslist so I don't really care if it dies prematurely. I wouldn't want it to drastically increase my electricity cost though.

I was actually thinking about taking out the sink in my laundry room and putting it there as an alternative. I never use the sink anyway. Thanks.

Hold on.

I found a cost comparison tool somewhere on the interwebby...just search: Cost to run a refrigerator......

If it's in the house....around $38 per month......outside?

Probably much more.

I'd double it.....plus the cost of the unit.

Vs. a cooler full of ice a couple of times per week?

Cooler wins hands down.

You may be on to something there! I just plugged my info into the calc and got a YEARLY cost of $30.36. Curious, what calculator were you using? I used this: ENERGY STAR Refrigerator Calculator : ENERGY STAR

Verlander needs to dump that hottie.....and if there's enough of us to request Stroh's at BevMo & Total Wine & More.....we can get the fire brewed goodness.

When I lived in a much colder climate, I spent $50 per month to run a fridge in the garage. That was about 7 years ago.

Not a good idea APS Electric even has a program
aps - refrigerator & freezer recycling
that pays $30 for old refrigerators and hauls them away. From what I understand much of that is geared to the fridges in garages, patios etc. type of thing. If all you want it for is stuff like beer couldn't you get a mini fridge?
