HVAC industry in PHX; not LA and numerous companies will ship 12 different brands to your door step. I had an AO Smith and it certainly wasn't any better than what HD sells. I 'm currently using an Electrolux tankless, made in Malaysia that was about 130 USD installed. My highest electric bill has been less than 30 USD for a month (.12 per kwh) for two people.

AO Smith probably ranks toward the bottom of contractor brands, and are inferior to Bradford White.

And anyone who tries to directly sell you any non-Goodman brand of HVAC unit is violating the manufacturer's sales policy. I know Carrier, Trane, and Lennox will not honor warranties on units that are not installed by one of their certified dealers.

I had an AO Smith heater installed by a disreputable contractor (who was ultimately booted from my home warranty company due to several complaints but that's another story). That heater lasted less than 2 years. I did some research and bought a Bradford White based on reviews and insider information.

If you don't own an AO Smith heater & aren't in the trade, how would you be qualified to rate one over another?

I've installed both AO Smith & Bradford White & only had (minor) problems with the Bradford White. The wholesale cost on both is exactly the same, though the markup on Bradford White is often quite silly.

and if you think your "technician" is a licensed contractor; think again. Someone in the company has a license; not the people doing the work....just like the HD subcontractors. Ducane (Lennox) also sells all over the US, and they are made in South Carolina. https://airconditioner.com/central_units.php too many to count.....
