Bull! This is one area, unlike say speedtraps or their ilk, where I want public safety officers busting balls.

Read this story: Driver pleads not guilty in fatal wrong-way wreck

and tell me the message is getting to people.

I'm a big believer in not being able to legislate against stupidity, but getting behind the wheel of a machine that weighs a ton and can go fast while you are drunk is awesomely stupid.

He was on work release also but his was for two years. He says it was for an extreme DUI with an accident. We never knew the details of the accident.

Posting a link about an accident where the person blew over twice the legal limit while on drugs does not exactly go anywhere near what the poster you quoted had said. There is a massive difference between someone having a couple drinks over dinner and someone driving while "loaded".

My quote was more to the police state money grab comment.

And yes there is a difference between a couple of drinks at dinner and someone getting bombed, but the message still hasn't gotten out to people. So while I LOVE to drink and at over 200 lbs could easily handle a glass of wine or more during a 2 hour dinner, I choose not to anymore because I have to keep my head on a swivel for all the idiots who don't know what they are doing.

I've lived and gotten drunk in some great cities and could always have a good time, we just made sure we had a way to get home without someone driving drunk. It ain't that difficult.

But at the same time you shouldn't have to be in fear of going to dinner and having a couple glasses of wine and driving home. The "impaired to the slightest degree" clause makes that fear a reality. That has nothing to do with people blowing twice the legal limit and killing someone.

I wish it were that way amongst us reasonable people. Like I said I like to drink.

I should be able to drink 2 glasses of wine in 2 hours but I choose not to not only because of the strictness of the law but because there are so many idiots on the road not calculating their consumption.

Is it an overstep? Probably. But I don't care. If people don't like it, they can call their rep and push for change.

Not like the good ol' days when I was a teenager and would drive around with a six pack of beer in the front seat while cruising around.

My brother is a sheriff down in Pima county and he told me that he can't just chase kids off like they did to us 30 years ago. Now he has to arrest kids and they are in mired in judicial hell for a few years. Arizona is not the place to get caught impaired behind the wheel.

BS.. you drink and drive you face the consequences. Some people are making excuses for drinking and driving. If you can afford to go out and drink you can afford to find your way home.

You're talking about driving impaired. I'm not at all condoning impaired driving. I'm talking about going to dinner and having two glasses of wine over the course of a meal. I would be well under the legal limit but could still get a DUI in AZ based on the cop's opinion. It's not like that in other states. It is here and it's a garbage law.
