I saw that last week and thought it was strange he didn't cite any evidence or any information on possible new employers. He just mentioned a "snowball effect" and made a prediction. I do agree that the East side 101 corridor is the place to be, I just think this article is overly optimistic and without any real data.

True...I think as Cloud services become more pervasive it is going to help start-ups get to the core of their business a lot quicker than having to mess around with infrastructure. That, by itself, should be a game changer and allow companies to only have to pay for services they consume rather than bloatware that was purchased for a specific feature and largely goes unused. This should spark innovation and precipitate a "Tech Boom" although I don't see the 101 corridor becoming a rival to Silicon Valley anytime soon. I know there were talks a few years back of "Silicon Desert" but the recession took care of that.

I also find it interesting that a small WiFi start-up in Surprise was recently acquired by Google. Then this morning that team of 8th graders that won the contest for most innovative App development with EcoKick. ASU has become one of the leading research colleges in the country and last year spun off, what? 11 new companies? The article may be over-optimistic but there is groundwork in the Valley to kick it off.

^^ This! We were able to get our Salesforce consulting/services company up and running with absolutely no infrastructure. Everything is being done in the cloud - right up to invoicing and book keeping. A few years ago, we would probably be tinkering with setting up our own mail/web server at this stage!

Agreed...no worries about hardware refresh, power outages, cabling, fires in the server room...just connect your office up to the 'Net and you are off and running.
