Interesting that people associate the monsoon season with rain. I've lived here a long time and to me it has been more about afternoons that suggest rain and end up only blowing dust. Not that we've had very much of that this year either. Rain in July and August is on average about an inch a month, which is only slightly more than we see in December through March.

The local news media of course will have a different take. Listen to the radio and TV, and they will tell you it has been an "average" monsoon season. There was a 60 percent chance of rain yesterday. So I'm thinking "yeah, we're gonna get a soaking tonight". They really meant a 60 percent chance of clouds, because that's what happened. Clouds.

Unfortunately, rain clouds don't always dump their cargo where we'd prefer.

There are those who don't like high humidity, yet I always thought that when it rains it's at 100% humidity -- but, actually that's not true, according to this:

"When the relative humidity reaches 100 percent, you'll notice it'll feel quite wet outside, but that doesn't necessarily mean it has to rain. One-hundred percent humidity means the air is completely saturated and is holding its maximum amount of water vapor".

Wow!

We got a lot of rain in May. Our "forecasters" were predicting that this monsoon would be weak and that El Nino would be strengthening. That's exactly what's happening. This is a desert, some years can be very, very dry. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

Seems like I'm going to enjoy it out there if this transfer ever goes through.
If the winters aren't bad enough to deal with out here, these consistent rain storms we've been having every two days are leaving me dumpy.

Others may need, plead, pray and rejoice the rain.
I usually go back inside and turn the heaters on.

Most longtime Arizonans indeed do look for the clouds and rain, so we're different in that respect. Usually people who move here from elsewhere are the exception, depending on their experiences.

Best of luck with your transfer, Strider.
