The big green alley dumpsters in Tempe...are they designated for certain houses?

We have a couple of neighbors remodeling (a few houses down), and them and the contractors load our dumpster over the top and then we can't use it. Been going on for months. They leave it overfilled on thurs or Fri and pickup is not 'til Tues. Half the time we can't use our dumpster...literally can't fit anything in there.

thanks for any help

Have you contacted the city about this?

If yours is full, you can use another one. However, I don't think contractors are allowed to use the alley dumpsters in Tempe... they are trying to avoid renting a rolloff. Paid landscapers aren't allowed to put clippings, branches, etc in the alley (I know that for sure, and are required to haul them away. I would think something similar is true for contractors.

EDIT: This is from the City website. No, they can't.

Why don't you just go over to the neighbors home and ask them not to do that anymore I find that is the first thing you should do. We had a neighbor who had a leaking car in front of his house made a big mess someone must have complained so he started parking it around the corner in front of our house. We gave him 3 days went over to their house pounded on the door and told them to move that @#@#@# junk car or @#@@@# will happen. The car was moved in 10 minutes and we never had an issue again. I know you might be frightened of what could happen but if you allow people to walk all over you they will do it. If you feel that these people might be a problem you can also call the police have them go to the door with you as an escort. Don't let them push you around I lived in a home where that was happening in an alley way but I could never figure out who was doing it I worked too many hours to watch for them.

By the way the city is useless so don't bother with them I have tried that before people just ignore them.

I'm not sure the police will come along with someone as an "escort" on a neighborhood civil dispute. Going over there with asterisks blazing as you describe may not be the best idea. Going over there and pointing out politely that city regulations prohibit it AND it's inconveniencing the other neighbors? Maybe.

And, when you say "the city" I don't think you are referring to Tempe specifically. Over 30 years of living here has taught me that this city is pretty active in enforcing its regulations with respect to trash pickup, and they are receptive to complaints.

My experience with the city was Phoenix over some dumping in a the alley I was on the corner house back in the 90's and come home find a nice old torn up furniture laying in my alley. City could careless they fined me for not cleaning it up. The shared trashcan was always overflowing with the most disgusting stuff.

I get better results with direct confrontation and yes the police will respond they would rather deal with the issue now and not later. The police know how these things can escalate. I have never used the police before I have known others who have.
