My son has always struggled in school due to his ADD, unable to focus, keep up with the class, behind grade level in reading and writing. IEP since kindergarten. Also social skills are behind, impulsive.
He is in 8th grade now and he is academically not ready for high school, even with his IEP accommodations, his private tutor, and our family's therapist. Also want to get him away from the bad trouble maker boys he has been hanging with in middle school. Does any one have suggestions & experience with private/charter high schools? Desert Vista High school would be the regular 9th grade he would go to.

Wow you could've been talking about my son!! in 8th grade with ADD - I feel you with the struggles and I'm sure the depression it's painful - my sons' therapist recommends Saguaro (82nd St) -because it has a community vibe and teachers know the children it's not as large as most - school tested him 3x for IEP and they keep saying he tests fine - but they don't look at his social anxiety when he's in the midst of other kids, one on one with a teacher he's fine - urggh - so getting an advocate to get him IEP support in HS... please keep in touch if you find a good school I may need to move mine soon after he starts next year!! all the best
