Hi all, long time no see.

I've got a question about cooling - looking at some apartments in Arcadia and South Scottsdale, and I'm noticing that a lot of the older complexes have a water cooled/heated chiller/boiler system instead of a/c or an evap.

I'm imagining that this sort of system is a step up from an evap, but how effective is it compared to an a/c unit? I'm not worried about losing control of my thermostat, necessarily, but I am wondering if these systems provide enough of a dent to make the summer comfortable? Does it lose its effectiveness come monsoon season, like an evap does?

Any insight would be helpful.

Chillers are what all your shopping malls & big buildings use for cooling. They do have to work harder during monsoon season, but if they're sized appropriately they're fine. (That doesn't mean your landlord will want to run it when it's 76 out & you prefer 72..)..

That said, you could prolly use a dual-tube portable a/c stuck through a bedroom window to knock the temps to where you want them - I.e., knocking a 76 degree bedroom down to 72 for sleeping..
