You are absolutely correct. The loss of 500 Intel jobs is Chandler's death knell. It is not like we have any other employers in the area that could absorb these employees...

I would recommend your parents look at Scottsdale or areas of north Phoenix like Desert Ridge, Norterra, Arrowhead or even Anthem where home values should appreciate a lot faster than Chandler/Gilbert. Hope that helps
The biggest issue for my parents is the bang for the buck factor and proximity to both jobs. She would absolutely love to live in Scottsdale but on their budget they would get barely anything on the lower end of scottsdale from what I was looking at.

Chandler is a nice, safe, middle class city. I just think it's overrated from the standpoint of how people love to rant and rave about it on this forum when there are numerous cities and areas within Phoenix that are comparable or exeed Chandler.

I think $215,000 is pretty good bang for the buck in a solid city like Chandler especially with interest rates in the mid threes

Losing 500 jobs that pay well over 50k a year in a city of 240,000 people is nothing to sneeze at. Intel employs well over 10,000 people in Chandler so if their struggles continue so will the layoffs I imagine. If the layoffs number in the thousands several years from now that will have a devestating impact on home values and the overall economy of the Southeast Valley. Hopefully this doesn't come to fruition.

KurtAZ-----I'll be renting instead of buying, but thanks for yet another vote for south Tempe; it seems to have a lot more nightlife than either Gilbert or Chandler for baby boomers such as yours truly as well as everyone else.

Two things that make Chandler attractive are better public schools and the fact that it's an employment center compared to other suburban areas.
