It seems like there are more dope smokers than cigarette smokers these days, especially among younger folks. It's amazing how mainstream it's become, even as they would never dream of smoking cigarettes because "those will kill you", they get high all the time as if it's somehow not bad for your lungs, etc. That's one thing I wonder about...kids not really understanding that, yes, it can have negative health effects just like cigarettes, alcohol, and other drugs, particularly if you are smoking it versus other delivery methods.

Heck, nowadays they sell weed test kids at the dollar store next to the pregnancy and ovulation tests...so everyone can make sure they pass their pre-employment screenings, I am guessing. That's how mainstream it is.

I honestly think a lot of employers just choose not to test their employees randomly once someone is hired unless there is an incident/accident/etc. This is probably due to 1) cost 2) they worry that any dragnet would rake in a lot more people than they want to lose.

In fairness, I think for many decades/centuries...there has been a tolerance by employers to "look the other way" so long as the job is getting done, regardless of what substance is being used.

Employers can fire an employee for failing a pre-employment OR random drug test for marijuana EVEN in completely legal states like Colorado/Washington. (Which is completely absurd by the way)

Please know what you're talking about before posting again, thanks.

It's legal to smoke pot in Colorado, but you can still get fired for it - LA Times

(Anyone know why that link is not clickable?)
Some empoyers are federal contractors and are required to forbid drug use as defined by the feds, regardless of state law.

Also, many companies are in multiple states, headquartered elsewhere. They won't have different rules for each state with different laws regarding pot.

Colorado and others who have legalized marijuana do not hire anyone with it showing on a urine test. It's a real paradox, legal at the state level but still quite illegal at the federal level. It's also a potential indicator you could be involved in other "Things.". Either harder drugs or something perhaps criminal. It is illegal to have an opened bottle of alcohol in a vehicle and if you are pulled over with more than a certain amount you could be citatated. Here's the thing, conservative, government related activities will not see it as legal. If in doubt place a call to the company you are applying for and ask anonmously what their policy is. They must inform you but do not disclose your name!

Glassdoor.com is a good place to get employee reviews of companies they have worked for.
