To be honest, I'm really disappointed by the ignorant replies I've received from this post. Maybe it's because you don't know anyone killed or injured in these dust storms, or you don't expect much from your government- but I do. Let the heads roll...

So can we pave the entire desert? Will Mexico pay for it?

Let's look on a positive....in the coming decades when all that farmland becomes suburban homes/developed, dust storms will for the most part become a thing of the past.

"Concrete nation makes dust storms largely a thing of the past!" will be the next headline down the road.

I thought this was already somewhat well-known knowledge?

Water. Think about it. Vegetative covering requires water. What are you going to water your new cover with?

Arizona isn't the dust bowl of the Midwest. We have been a dust bowl for far longer. For as long as I can remember the desert around here has had little to no cover.

I read somewhere that overgrazing by the cattle industry back in the 1800s is the cause. And once upon a time dinosaurs looked like the Sinclair logo. Now they are related to birds. Who knows who or what caused the problem. Suing a dead horse won't help anybody.

Two words desert shrubbery. We don't water the nature do we? The issue is the natural shrubbery was removed for agriculture. So replace it. Creosote Bushs are no maintenance, as are palo verdes.

Let's get the college kids to do it, make them learn about nature a little bit, make them appreciate the desert we live in. They already pull buffel grass in Tucson with the same purpose.

What about asking the farmers who caused the issue to remedy it?
