Hello folks! I'm moving soon to take a job in the ASU area and would like some advice on commute times in particular. Due to finding schools we like for our kids we are generally looking south a good 10 miles in S Tempe or Chandler, or east 14 to 16 miles out. Ive had a local tell me its an easy half hour to get 7 or 8 miles. Google maps doesn't really agree but I'm not sure how accurate its traffic times are particularly during rush hour. Any thoughts? I'm happy to try and be more specific on areas if that helps, although we're pretty unsettled on that as of yet.

As far as what I'm looking for? I don't mind 30 minutes. I don't, however, want a 30 that regularly stretches to 50 or 60 minutes.

Surface streets are more predictable. Freeways are not, I check Google Maps every morning.

In your situation id look South not East. Tempe south of the 60 is very nice as is Northern Chandler. Tempe north of the 60 can also be nice, but it has some inherent draw backs like alleyways and older homes.

So east into Mesa/Gilbert has the potential for worse traffic than south toward Chandler?

Thanks, thats exactly what I'm trying to figure out!

during rush hour M-F 6 am-9am & 3pm-7pm its generally 3-4 times as long it should take. Snowbird season just started and its slightly worse at all times (except late night) for the next 6 months.
