Recently moved to north Tempe and accidentally found myself driving in downtown Scottsdale a couple of times. Horrible. Stoplight every 2 friggin inches. Grrrr.

Could sometime give the 4 sets of crossroads that define where the bs starts so that I can never go back there?

Since it appears to be a really big deal to you, don't go north of Thomas on Scottsdale Road. Opens up again from Chaparral north. If you need to pass through Scottsdale to points north, use Hayden/McClintock. Fewer lights in that central area. There really isn't a west border you need to worry about, as there aren't major north-south streets west of Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale that you would need to use.

Pretty much Osborn Rd on the south, the Arizona Canal/Stetson Dr (south of Camelback Rd) on the north, Goldwater Blvd/70th St to the west and Drinkwater Blvd/74th St to the east

Use Hayden or Goldwater. Easy solution without being so dramatic.

I don't know about McClintock as an alternate.
There is always a traffic jam near the light rail. Grrrr.

Huh? I go up and down that road all the time. And, the OP may be north of Apache already. At rush hour, it's busy, but I never have an issue at Apache with the light rail. It's the best alternative to Scottsdale Road north/south, if you need to go past, but not go TO, the congested area in downtown Scottsdale. The other north/south streets don't go straight through.

as said, Hayden is a great alternative to Scottsdale Rd if you need to go NORTH (or south) of downtown Scottsdale.....

also, 68th St from Jackrabbit south to McDowell has been a longtime well-kept secret for those who may need to head north/south from the Town of PV area (McDonald/Lincoln west of Scotts Rd.) to points south....but watch the speed limit and disappearing lanes along the way....

of course, the best advice is to simply avoid Scotts Rd downtown (!)
