I have family living in the Phoenix area for the past couple of years. My question is what is the best hospital to be at in Phoenix should someone need medical care. I'm in Houston and we have our main med center and for instance, Methodist med center is highly desired should A person need hospital care and finding a doctor associated with Methodist med center is also desirable. MD Anderson is desired for cancer care, etc. so my question to longtime residents is what is Sought out as the top health care in Phoenix?

Depends on what they are being treated for. Each system has their strengths and weaknesses.

I know what you mean. Stanford Medical Center is our go-to facility here in Northern California. My neurosurgeon is affiliated with Stanford.

Since we're moving to Scottsdale (fingers crossed) I found the Mayo Clinic is the #1 rated hospital in Arizona. They have two facilities in the Phoenix metro area:

The hospital is off 101 at N. 56th Street/Mayo Blvd. The Scottsdale campus is at East Shea and 134th Street in northeast Scottsdale.

Hope this helps.

Hospital privileges, except for surgeons, don't matter like they used to. Primary care doctors (family practice, internal medicine) and other specialists don't always come see their patients in the hospital; the patients are treated by hospitalists (doctors on staff of or contracted with the hospital).

We have specialist hospitals here for orthopedic surgery, cardiac surgery, and neurosurgery (Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph's Hospital, which is a fine general hospital as well), and several general hospitals. We have MD Anderson here, as well as Cancer Treatment Centers of America.

Thx. Good to know. Here in Houston what hospitals they are affiliated with are still very important. There is still an element of prestige being associated with the better healthcare facilities. When you want an expert in a field -- you know what organization you want your doctor to be affiliated with and then You know those who you don't want. A little research here and you can find one of the top specialists in the country in a particular field.

The Phoenix metro has a lot of major hospitals. Scottsdale Osborn, Banner University (Good Samaritan), St. Joseph's / Barrow and Phoenix Children's Hospital are all very well regarded. I also have had good experiences with other hospitals like Scottsdale Shea and John C Lincoln.

Mayo is great but not my first thought when thinking of acute hospital care -- in my mind, its focus is more on specialists and so forth, although they do have a hospital.

But, there are lots and lots of good hospitals here so it's hard to go wrong.

Here is a list of the Level I Trauma Centers ... I can't vouch for Abrazo West, Dignity Chandler, or Maricopa Medical Center but the others I've been to or heard good things about.
