Take that, Philly: Phoenix reclaims title of 5th-largest U.S. city

Census estimates placed the population of Phoenix on July 1, 2016 at 1,615,017 people, making Phoenix the 5th most populous city in the country. The city gained 32,113 people from July 1, 2015 to July 1, 2016, which makes Phoenix the fastest growing city in the country based on numeric increase.

I was reading something last year when Phoenix was 6th written by some Californians that couldn't believe Phoenix was so populated...it was a city that was off of most of their radar. Amusing as many businesses are moving out of California cities to Phoenix. Phoenix won't be off their radar for long.

I guess Philly is the city that gets knocked down to 6?

From the Philly newspapers with some cool graphics telling the story:

Philly slips from fifth to sixth, as Phoenix rises

The City of Brotherly Love is still growing, and for a 10th straight year, after decades of decline. That’s no small achievement for a constrained, old Eastern city. The challenge is that cities in the South and West are growing much faster, and Phoenix had the largest increase of all — 32,113 people between July 2015 and July 2016.

While Philadelphia is adding eight people a day, Phoenix brings in 11 times that, 88 a day, according to Census Bureau statistics released Thursday. The biggest difference between Phoenix and Philadelphia may be physical size. Philadelphia spans a compact 135 square miles, but Phoenix covers 517 — half the size of Rhode Island.

This is actually bad news. Phoenix will now need to learn how to make a decent cheesesteak.

Also we're going to need some steps to run up and then pump our fists in the air for no apparent reason.

That place on Central next to Honey Bear makes a good one.

Longtime Arizonans might prefer cheese steak tacos.

Maybe Philly will have to learn to make a Sonoran Dog.

Lets just hope PHX uses Philly's recipe of going UP instead of OUT. Seriously.

Philly is adding skyscrapers like its going out of style. We're just adding more homes and lame 10 story apartments. C'mon, Phoenix!
