There's things I love about Phoenix and things I hate. Pretty much everything acrylic said.

I love our large amount of friends down there. More friends than anywhere else! I dislike the heat and lack of seasons. Overall it's like anywhere there are positives and negatives.

Will I live in Phoenix forever? Never say never as can be learned by the fact we are returning in the first place.
I have been in your shoes before. We left Phoenix for Austin after my job closed at the beginning of the great recession. Austin's economy was flourishing, the city is beautiful and has lots going for it, but my family didn't like living there and couldn't get back to Phoenix fast enough. It is a great city, just wasn't for us. In the same way, Phoenix is a great fit for some people and not for others.

This is the most civil discussion with differing opinions that I've seen in a long time Glad we can all agree that everybody likes something different, and what suits one person may not suit another, and vice versa!

Hey maybe this site is evolving into something productive after all. I can't remember how many people I've given advice to move on if they don't like it. I've done it personally and think everyone should figure out how to get to a place that they're happy with. They've all got pros and cons and we all value things to different levels. I like hearing different perspectives and seeing different cities, if they were all the same it would make for some pretty boring travel experiences.

I couldn't agree more! If everyone liked the same city and same climates, there's be a lot of empty land out there!

I miss the seasons and trees too. I do love it here for six months out of the year but am thinking about moving in a few years. I started a family after I moved here and want my son to be able to experience all four seasons and to be able to enjoy his summers playing outside, swimming, going to the lake, catching fireflies, all the things I did when I was a kid.
My kids did all of those things in summer with the exception of the fireflies. They hung out at our community lakes on paddle boats, lived one summer at the community water park, had forts in the wash near our house, played soccer and baseball, etc. The heat really did not bother them except maybe on the real scorchers - sort of the equivalent of rainy days elsewhere. They pretty much just accepted heat as part of life and still do. They freeze everywhere else. Having said that and thinking back on my own time as a kid in the frozen tundra, we did spend far more time outdoors in summer. Then again, we had no cell phones, video games, or parents who worried constantly when we were out of sight.
