You’ve been here a couple weeks and are already trying to change things? Just stay to the right, please.

When I'm in Arizona compared to my primary home in Washington state, I d notice more cops and enforcement of speed laws it seems to me in Arizona which goes against the common view that Washington is a more regulations/rule oriented state. I drove from Phoenix to Tucson yesterday and saw a couple of cars pulled over for speeding on the way. The traffic in the left lane seemed to flow 8-10 over the speed limit.

I've intentionally paid attention recently as well. I've been all over the Valley looking at the prospect of relocating to a different part of town. I've noticed there are times when traffic goes like a bat out of Hell. But often, no one is going more than 5 MPH over even when they can. based off of my non-scientific perception, when the speeds were slightly elevated, it was from 11 am to 2 PM. My guess is those folks are not in a hurry to go to work or go home. But before and after rush hour, people are cruising. Come to think of it, after the evening rush hour is when I noticed the fastest drivers. I wonder if there is a pattern??

I'm doing:

15 in 15
30 in 25
40 in 35
54 max in 45
75 in 65 or can go 80 depending on the traffic flow
84 in 75

I got a ticket when I did 87 in 75 in i8 west.

Oh dear me...who or what are you? I'm in the middle lane with bunches of other sane people, the fast drivers are not the norm. No need to be a drama queen.

LOL, relax. At least you know enough to stay out of the way. Your lack of experience here doesn’t qualify you to comment on “the norm”.

75+ is plenty normal when I’m out during non-rush hours. I usually set the cruise at 79 and while I pass many, many others pass me as well. We have well-maintained, wide lanes, with little weather to contend with. Once that sets in, you’ll get used to the flow.

Detroit .... such a scofflaw. Shame. What other laws do you feel you can break ?

For the record, I don't speed.

Meh. Nothing shameful about driving with purpose and critical thinking. Just yesterday evening I had an AZ state trooper behind me as I was going 80 on the 101 in the HOV lane. I got over after passing and he continued in his merry way. No big deal.

Driving exactly the speed limit on our highways is far more dangerous and inconsiderate than going with the flow of traffic. You’ll learn once you step away from your terrible roads and congestion. Or maybe you won’t and you’ll take pride in being holier than thou and in everyone’s way. Whatever.

Cops just love to sit on the 10 between Tucson and Phoenix and pick off speeders. Easy money for the government!

With all the various areas of construction and the variety of speed limits, it's easy for folks unfamiliar with the area to get confused.

In Tucson proper, 40% drive quite fast at all times (I admit to membership in this group), 40% drive ridiculously slow to the point of holding up traffic (considerably under the speed limit, usually by folks driving 20-30 year old minivans), and 20% are close to the speed limit.
