How Long Will My Tree Live?
Citrus trees have a lifespan of about 25 years. Some live longer and some not quite as long. Grapefruit trees have a tendency to outlive most other citrus trees and can become huge bush-like plants that produce fruits throught the year. And they require even less pruning than the other citrus plants.

My orange tree was in place when I bought the house nearly 30 years ago, so I'm guessing it has to be about 50 years old. Still going strong, and it produces a high quantity of juicy oranges every year which are ripe as of now, and the fruit is usually good through the spring. Citrus trees not only need lots of water, but deep waterings, especially in the hot, dry months. It's best to have wells around the trees to hold in the water. Putting them in rock/xeriscape yards with drip systems is not enough, and their lifespan will often be shorter in those environments.

I had a Meyer lemon tree that was planted in 1950 per the first owner of our home here in Northern CA. Ours used to fruit extensively but finally died five years ago. I looked into it and found citrus life span is about 30-40 years so ours lasted much longer than norm. We fertilized per schedule through the years. When it died, it went within few years.
