I may live next to a railroad line because I am interested in trains, and I live next to a main road here in the UK, and you sort of phase it out after a while.

i have lived near express way and a railroad. living next to the road my home wad dusty all the time, and when we had the windows open you could hear the trafic. we got use to it.

I grew up near train tracks, so I really never thought much about it. Now I live about 2 blocks from the train and I can hear it if I listen, but it doesn't bother me. It would probably be the same with the Hwy.

I had a train that ran rite behind by place. It would shake every time a train came by and the tv would loose reception. Drove me nuts.

I'm hesitant to move near power lines.
Airports, highways, and train tracks do not affect me. I'm a city dweller. After a while, the noise from these goes unnoticed, even at night. I have never been kept awake, or been awakened by any train, aircraft, or vehicle after acclimating to a new residence.
In fact, when I have a hotel in a remote area, I have to create some sort of noise with the ventilation system, or I am unable to sleep because of the quiet.

If I was a home buyer the answer would be no to all the above. If I was renting I would try to determine the health effects and whether they would matter enough to worry about.

Normally you get used to the noise after awhile, and simply don't hear it anymore....so its not usually a big deal for some people. However, in terms of resale if you were to purchase the home....it is much harder to sell and is not sought after.
