A friend of my son, contacted me this past Friday. After he seen my Myspace site, He sent me a email and told me I should move out there. He is living there and he knows what type of work I do, He was telling me that folks out that are always looking for someone who knows how to do stucco and plaster work. Being I am in MIchigan this would be a big move for me cause I have a lot of equipment to do my work. Could anyone give me info about construction in this area. I have 28 years in construction trades, I can do plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plaster and painting, if you want to see some of my work go towww.frankawitz.net you can check out what I do. then let me know cause up here I haven't had any jobs in 8 weeks now and things are getting tight.

Surprise is not a big area...and AZ is suffering some of the same construction woes as other places, although I know that Michigan is really high on the unemployment ladder. I would suggest you come visit before you leap. And look around northern AZ, as well...Chino Valley, Prescott & Prescott Valley and the Verde valley...might be a bit more housing going on there than in Surprise.

Esselcue is right about Surprise not being huge, but it is close to many other areas where a guy like you could scratch out a living. New construction has dried up over the past year and a half, but re-modeling is what is keeping my head above water right now. With everything you do, you would probably need a general contractor B license. Kind of a hassle to obtain and the liability insurance is a killer. Check on azroc.gov for info.

Things won't be in the toilet for ever, so if you can get set up here now and weather the storm, you could probably do pretty well here in the near future.

Best of luck to you!

p.s. I would be happy to help out with any questions (I'm a GC myself) you might have. Send me a direct message if you want.
