I’ve heard that double-decker also. I just can’t understand how long it will take to be built. Even doing the widening project from the 101 loop north to Anthem will take a while to finish, however it will be easier then the double-decker. Look how long it’s taking to work on the Grand Avenue bridges to move traffic into Phoenix from the n-w.

Not to worry however, the light-rail train will relieve traffic; I just don’t know where. It’s not picking up anyone from outside the city to eliminate the cars coming in from the outer areas.

Is that a serious statement? It won't relieve traffic in most areas. The valley is too large for this project unless they expand in every direction, and that would be a crazy big mess to do.

Hello! My family and I, originally from suburban Chicago, have lived in Glendale for the past twenty years, and love it. We work downtown and the commute is shorter and quicker; we spend less on gas and gain more time. The commute to the business park near 1-17 and Greenway is easy from Glendale. Surprise is a great community, too, but as several others have mentioned, getting in and out of town for commuters is subject to traffic jams causing longer commutes; there are about three Rapid buses daily M-F each way to downtown Phoenix, otherwise little in the way of public transportation. We chose to move closer to our jobs in 2004 and moved closer to downtown Glendale. We chose Marbrisa Ranch, a 12 year-old in-fill development which has the advantage of being in the Peoria School District, yet walking distance to all the Glendale attractions like the main Glendale Library, Adult Center, Saguaro Ranch Park and all its festivals, churches, grocery stores, Post Office, Walgreens (almost everything!) and the main Glendale Community College, with all its offerings of concerts, sports, and plays. Old-town Glendale, complete with the town square and all the festivals (the Chocolate Festival is this weekend and it was packed with people walking around last night - a great sign for an old-fashioned downtown) is about two miles south. I like antique shops and the Caitlin Court Historic District, possibly because we are from the Midwest and like the old-fashioned community, with its character. The Arrowhead area is very nice, too, but everything is newer up there. Where I live, I wake up and hear peacocks and antique tractors at the park, and even hear a city bus going by, so I know if there is a transportation [oil/gas price] crisis, I can get to work. Moving closer into work is getting more popular these days. We love Glendale!

I got’a agree with you “sablebaby” the valley is too large and this project isn’t picking up anyone from the outer edges of the valley. It’s starting point is the old “Christown Mall” so looks like those who live in the area about 15th and 19th ave. near Bethany Home will be the only ones riding the rails.

The metro area needs mass public transportation badly and I am completely for it. I just don’t want to see it be a train taking up space on the same roads that the cars and buses are trying to drive on. And they need to get the rails moved out into the major outside areas of the valley. It should have been an elevated mono-rail above the auto traffic.
