I love spending my weekends swimming and I was wondering if people here still swim and relax at the pool in December and January or is it too cold? I'm pretty sure the main pool at my apartment is heated in the winter, but should that keep it warm enough to go swimming in the heart of winter?

Tough one, NytoPHX

If you are a true New Yorker, you'll probably have no problems swimming year 'round out here.

Once you become a Zony . . . as soon as the temperatures drop into the 70's, you'll unpack your heavy clothes and wouldn't think of going anywhere near water until "warm weather" returns.

As with much of life . . . IT IS ALL RELATIVE!

My first year here from NY I did but since then I don't swim past mid September and not before June

I lived in the Phx metro area for 14 yrs. Some Christmases I wore shorts, and others a coat. It gets cold enough to snow on Four Peaks so it can get chilly. A heated pool is easily used all winter. Unheated no way. Desert nights get cool especially Nov - Mar. Can't open the pool until April & then for a Zonie it's ch... ch... chilly lol! Thin blood yanno!

I used to swim year 'round at our townhouse pool. I've swam on Christmas before. IF it is heated, you should be fine though locals may think you are nutz.

If you have a hot tub you can warm up and then take a quick swim. It's actually not bad.

We did that too! First the jacuzzi until sweat was rolling off. Then splash and SCREAM into the pool. Back to the jacuzzi!

Oh my blood has already thinned out after 3 months. I was in LA last weekend and driving with my windows down at night and I was freezing. It literally felt like 45-50 degrees to me, and much to my chagrin it was 65. So maybe I wont be doing a lot of swimming, come December....Perhaps I should have brought some heavy clothes with me...

I've always swam through the winter in California.. but only with a heated pool and I'm pretty sure in AZ its about the same (I swim regularly for exercise), what I recommend is joining a health club with a big pool so you can avoid the cost of heating your own pool if you have one as I am sure this would be significantly cheaper and you get the added benefit of a bigger pool and the rest of the equipment at the health club.
