My husband is starting school at UTI in Avondale in March, so we have to relocate. We currently live in Missouri, and we cannot make a trip out beforehand to check out the area. We have small children, and want them to be in a good school and safe area, and I am wondering where would be the best place to live. We have been trying to see about towns nearby-Glendale, Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa-I've seen a few mentions of Gilbert too. They all seem to be within 30 miles of Avondale, which we are willing to drive if it is worth it. We are on a limited budget, but don't want to end up in the wrong part of town. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

You want to live out west Avondale, Buckeye, etc...there should be plenty of homes to rent or buy in those areas these days...if you want to buy, you should be able to find a great deal....the drive from Mesa, Gilbert is a killer if you have to do it everyday...just curious, what is UTI?...I've never heard of it.

My husband and I drive over the road and we work for a moving company We are in ks city Mo right now and would love to get a load going to Glendale Az.. I think you can find a good and chep enough place in Glendale or Peoria there are some good areas in avondale but you have to p ay the price. Try getting into maybe renting a mobile home for the time being and that way you be stuck where you don't want to be. this way you have some time to look around and its the snow bird season right now so thing are going to be alittle more. take your time and thing go down alot after the snow birds leave. If we can help in your move let me know. kathy

For your situation, Goodyear! Safe, clean, new, good (enough) schools, plenty of rentals both apts and homes, and close to school. Best choice, hands down.

First, thank you thank you to everyone who has posted-all feedback is appreciated. UTI IS an automitive school, Universal Technical Institute. Funny someone from there hadn't heard of it, lots of people here in MO have, I thought it was pretty big. Hmmm...
So now I have another question- if we do look in Peoria or Goodyear, are there jobs? I looked up Maricopa county job listings, and there were like 3600 of them. Now, compared to where I am right now, that sounds like a LOT! Our paper the other day had 6-yes, as in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6!!! I realize there are lots more people there, though, so I'm wondering if the jobs are really as abundant as it sounds....?

I would say if you have small kids I would look at Surprise area there are a lot of young families out there. On jobs what do you do? I see your husband is going into the automotive industry. There are a lot of different fields out here so there will always be jobs. The Phoenix area is still growing jobs will always be needed. There won't be an issue getting jobs out here. With new construction it brings new jobs. There are a lot of Health care jobs out here as well. Have you looked at CareerBuilder.com? They have a lot of jobs on that site.

OH my gosh- stay West. Tempe is lovely but WAY too far for you to drive to and from Avondale. Don't even think about it!

My advice would be to get on the phone with a realtor. A realtor can't tell you his or her thoughts about specific schools, but a good one can help you narrow down your search. Even if you stay West, there is a lot to see.

Another thought- have you gone on Google Earth or Trulia.com? A picture is worth a thousand words.
