We just moved and left our falling apart futon with some friends at our last place. We are renting a two bedroom apartment for about 12 months before we buy a place to settle down in.
My question is: what's the best way to go about getting a love seat? We don't have a truck or even a large-trunked car to haul anything. We thought about going to a regular furniture store, but weren't sure if that would be the best value. Any and all advice about furniture buying is appreciated. Thanks.

Careful about buying used - a friend got bedbugs in her house from a garage-sale chair recently, it was a major hassle.

Most stores deliver - or you can rent the pick-ups at lowes or home depot for not much money, usually less than a u-haul truck.

There's an auction on fridays in Mesa that sells store display furniture - it's usually really cheap over the summer, prices go up in the winter because of snowbirds -the website is mesaauction.net - they post pictures on their website on wednesday for the following friday - My wife and I got some great deals there.

Most of the home improvement stores rent trucks by the hour or you can get one cheap from UHaul. That's what we're doing to get a large couch home from Costco.

I've never walked out of U-haul without spending at least $100 for a truck with all of the mileage/fees/insurance. The Depot/Lowes trucks are rented by time, not mileage, and your regular car insurance will cover them, so it's rare for me to even spend $30 to borrow a Depot/Lowes truck.

Craigs list--we got a almost brand new premium leather couch for a steal. I'm sure you could borrow a friends truck or the person you are buying from sometimes is willing to deliver.

We got what we think is a good deal at a furniture store. And they delivered (for a fee of course).

Check out freecycle.org (not .com). You can join a group in your area for free, and they have wonderful people on there within the group that have ALL sorts of neat things...home furnishings, chainsaws, couches, etc. all for FREE. And it's all in good, clean condition. Not like you might find on Craigslist...There is absolutely no catch. We moved out of state and while we were waiting for our shipment of household goods, I ran across freecycle. Within a few days, I had found enough items to totally furnish our home. Definitely worth a look.
