Hi! I'm a 26 year old woman graduating from grad school. I have a job offer in Phoenix and I have to make a decision in the next 24 hours. I've never been there so I need A LOT of help!!

Here are my questions:

1. Is Phoenix is a good place to move for a young single person?

2. My job offer is with Pendergast School District on the West side of Phoenix- what are some areas I should look at to live in? Glendale?

3. What are your favorite things about Phoenix?

4. It sounds like Phoenix is pretty awful in the summer- is it pretty mild weather for the rest of the year?

5. Is it a dog friendly city?

I would appreciate all of your help!!! I'm really leaning towards moving here but I don't want to make the wrong decision. And I don't know anyone there.

Thanks!!!

Our young daughters love the Biltmore district. That would be a place I would live if I were young and single. Scottsdale is another place to look if your salary is decent. N. Phoenix by Desert Ridge is also nice. The latter two places mean a freeway drive. As far as dogs go, you would have to check with the landlords if you are renting. There are lots of dog parks around so I would say we are fairly dog friendly.

You can work there and live within a half hour or so commute! Nice areas, but on teachers salary you'll need $1000 a month for housing. Hope you don't have much debt!

Default Dont' do it

Phoenix is hell with palm trees. There is no heart to the city and it lacks the culture that other metropolitan areas have. It's poorly planned for expansion of public transportation even though they are putting in a transit system which is already outdated and obsolete. Phoenix in my opinion has grown too fast without the right leadership. You'll end up running your airconditioning 10 months out of the year and neighborhood streets are like ghost towns in the summer because it's two hot for kids to play which leads to a shut it society and erodes potential for community. Arizona is rated the lowest in the Nation for education and in the bottom five for the quality of life index. Our teachers are paid the lowest in the country. But houses are cheap and there are job opportunties...

Dudes-- it's been THREE MONTHS now since the original dicussion has ended. I'm sure the original poster has already made up her mind by now on where to live. There are plenty of current discussion topics to participate in-- what is the point of digging up three-month old posts just to throw in your two cents? Although I'll hand it to you, gacosta, your phrase, "Phoenix is hell with palm trees" is pretty witty.
