This christmas my friends & family will be meeting in Phoenix for a wedding and we will eventually drive down to Tucson. We don't want to rush down on interstate 10 down to Tucson, we want some interesting areas to stop at on the way. Last year we went to Florence & the ostrich farm. We had a great time. Anybody have any other suggestions for other existing spots to stop at between Tucson & Phoenix???

I don't know quite how off the track you want to go, but I once took state highway 85 south through Ajo and Sells on my way to Tucson. Even though I received a $25 ticket in Ajo for going 15 in a 10 mph zone (no, I am not kidding), the drive was still pretty and worth it for me. There isn't anything in the way of tourist attractions, but it is a beautiful drive.

When we have the time, we come back from Tucson through Oro Valley, Oracle, and on up to Superior and into Phoenix on Hwy 60 through Apache Junction (or the vice versa from Phx to Tucson). It's a beautiful drive with hardly any traffic (usually) and some beautiful mountain vista and high desert vegetation.

I would avoid the speed traps near the outlet mall near Casa Bland.

The Pinal County Parkway(the road from Oracle to Florence) is attractive. Or start from east Valley, out to Florence Junction, up to Superior and Globe/Miami, then back down and the Parkway again.
There's really no "beautiful" interesting ways from Phx to Tucson. Sorry.

When is that stoopid asphalt & concrete rock & roll theme park gonna be poured into Eloy (?) - just in time to go under, like six (6) months later?

Take the 60 over to Florence Junction then take Highway 79 south to Highway 77. Very scenic.

Another choice is to take the 60 all the way to Highway 177 south to Highway 77. Scenic, as well.

Taking the route through Oracle will take you near the BioSphere.. which is worth seeing at least once.
