I'm a Sr Oracle DBA. My wife and I visited Phoenix in 2003 and enjoyed it very much. Thought about relocating there but when looking on monster and other IT job sites, there weren't many IT opportunites in the area at all. Now, wow, I am amazed how many IT jobs are now available. Why such an increase in IT jobs since 2003 ? Phoenix looks like an IT hot spot now. Relocating to the area looks more inviting these days.

I am in IT industry (software dev). Moved from CA. The best thing I have ever done.
Just resigned from my job in CA, moved here, and rented a room. Took me 6 weeks to get a job with SAME rate I used to have in CA. Here are a lot of data centers. So dba job in high demand, especially Oracle. I don't know what might cause increasing IT job demand since 2003. I guess many companies moved IT operations to AZ from CA. In my job hunting process I spoke with a few which offered re-location to AZ and in a case of refusal, just hire new workers here.

Funny, because the news media went bonkers when Google pulled out of the Valley claiming there wasn't any talent/interest in IT here.

Yep, I personally didn’t express much interest to join Google, as well. Their hiring process takes at least 5 interviews.
You have to be really desperate to go through all those hoops.
