I want to take my cousin visiting from Chicago to the best authentic Mexican restaurant in town. Where is it?

I wish I had my Mother-In-Law on hand for this one, she was born and raised here and knows all the good out of the way Mexican food spots. Villa Del Los Santos is the one I know of, it's on Central and Hatcher in the SunnySlope area.

Here's a previous post about Mexican Food places in Phoenix:

I don't live in Phoenix (yet), but I've been to this place several times, and it's delicious: http://www.barriocafe.com/ . Highly recommended from some locals and from me!

It's in Chicago, and the chef's name is Rick Bayless.

But, in Phoenix, here's a place you might try:

Los Dos Molinos was hands down my favorite authentic restaurant when I lived there. YUMMY!!

I didn't like the Mesa location as much as the Phoenix location, for some reason.

Poncho's on S Central is very good....not a true dumpy hole-in-the-wall, but very local and popular.....nothing trendy (hasn't been on the Food Channel!)
